Give gnad doc ideas!

I am selfishly moving this post into its own separate page so people will be reminded I want to pick their delicious braains:

yes sir, that's my lemmingk

I’m not ready to start producing one, but I’m sending out an all-points bulletin to ask gnadj readers to keep in mind any ideas you think would make a good documentary–be it short or long form, serious or goofy, happy or sad, controversial or not! My well of ideas is dry and I’d like to hear what you guys think. Just reply to this post with the idea, and I’ll check this post from time to time and read what you have to say. Or if you wanna do a doc or a fiction film and need another hand, I’d be glad to help. BTW my last idea came from reading boingboing.net! There are tons of stories out there waiting to be told, I’m just too distracted right now to take notice of any ;) ;)

love,
gnad

and here are the supercool responses so far:

Hmmm. Something with a science-tilt, you think?

How about people’s paranoia that the Large Hadron Collider is going to create a black hole and end the world? Technically via quantum mechanics it is possible, but very very VERY unlikely.

Oh, oh–or do you know about Morgellon’s Disease? That’s some weird stuff. I worked with an Infectious Disease specialist who told me about it initially.

thanks muchly for the ideas nadj! keep ‘em coming! ;)
not necessarily science–i might be more comfy doing something like that but i’d maybe like to try out other topics too.
ha! yes the LHC will eat us all alive…<>

Well, I linked to this in a protected post on my other blog–so you may get some random ideas from people.

If I read about anything else interesting, I’ll add it here.

Overheard multiple times on the subway today, courtesy of an 8-year-old with a high, pipy voice that carries:

“Mommy, how did they invent the Metro?”

Mom didn’t have a great answer, but did tell the kid that the the sensation of forward motion that he felt was a product of Einstein’s First Law of Motion…or is it Newton? She always forgets.

How about, “Did you know that the CIA owns Facebook?”

I enjoyed this article about Dark Energy in the NY Times Science section this week.

The fact that we still don’t understand something seemingly as simple as gravity–and how therefore we don’t have a damn clue what the universe is about–is pretty amusing. I like this quote:

Lawrence Krauss of Case Western Reserve University told them, “In spite of the fact that you are liable to spend the rest of your lives measuring stuff that won’t tell us what we want to know, you should keep doing it.”

I’d like to see a documentary about Joel Furr, possibly even more than Joel Furr would.

In a similar vein, the link for Ringtail’s site in your right nav is incorrect, and therefore disappoints me.

Ringtail can clue you in on who Joel Furr is, I reckon.

Oh, hey — how about Psychiana?

Note the location where it was based. I can hook you up.

How about a documentary about Morgan Spurlock? That’d be way cool. You could ask him if he was really involved with creating that Anthrax documentary, or if that was just a typo on Amazon.

I’d especially see it if your and Spurlock’s documentary crews got into a rumble, like on…what was it? Man Bites Dog?

Hey Gnad

I found gnadj while searching the interwebs for high quality bloggers, and am reaching out to let you know about a project I’m working that I think you’d really dig. It’s a way for your blog fans to converse with each other in chat-like real time, though organized and focused specifically around shared content (in a pretty interface).

From what we’ve seen so far, people are many times more inclined to comment and discuss with one another on this than via stock commenting, and the interaction is much more lively and entertaining.

Does this sound like something you’re interested in seeing/trying? Hit me back when you have a change and I’ll give you an invite to check it out.

Cheers,
Andy
